Platja Llarga in Salou
Salou, known worldwide as the capital of the Costa Dorada, reveals its most natural and peaceful side away from the summer crowds, especially on its most unspoilt stretch of sand: Platja Llarga.
The natural environment surrounding the sand is ideal for hiking. Behind the beach is the Camino de Costa, which allows visitors to walk along the coastline and connect with other coves and viewpoints in Salou, enjoying the sound of the sea without the summer hustle and bustle.
Natural dunes
This beach, which stretches for more than 600 metres, stands out as one of the few coastal areas in the region that still preserves a system of natural dunes and native vegetation. During the winter months, when the sun casts long shadows and the temperature is perfect for walking, Platja Llarga becomes a true oasis of calm.
The preservation of the dunes, with their characteristic flora, adds significant ecological value. In winter, the beach becomes a privileged place to observe seabirds and enjoy the purity of the Mediterranean light, proving that Salou is much more than leisure and theme parks; it is also a haven of natural beauty and tranquillity during the low season.
Platja de la Llosa, in Cambrils
Continuing our tour of the Tarragona coastline, Platja de la Llosa in Cambrils is an ideal destination for experiencing winter calm. This beach, which stretches for around 2,000 metres between Ardiaca beach and Horta de Santa Maria beach, is characterised by its coarse golden sand and crystal-clear, remarkably calm waters.
In winter, La Llosa offers peaceful enjoyment, perfect for long walks or bike rides. As with all the beaches in Cambrils, the seafront promenade provides easy access and connection to the heart of this fishing town.
The gentle slope leading down to the sea makes it a traditionally family-friendly area, a feature that is especially appreciated in the low season, when walks are more relaxed. In addition, the beach is also well-maintained and has earned the Blue Flag distinction, a seal of quality that guarantees its healthiness and environmental cleanliness.
Remember that Shuttle2Sun offers affordable and sustainable shared and private transfer services to Cambrils from Barcelona Airport, Barcelona Port, Reus Airport, Girona Airport and Camp de Tarragona AVE train station.
Platja de l’Estany Gelat in Miami Platja
Away from the more urban centres, the coastline of Mont-roig del Camp – Miami Platja hides a real natural treasure: Platja de l’Estany Gelat (also known as Estany Salat).
Its most notable feature is the presence of a small coastal lagoon. This area, classified as a protected natural space and part of the Natura 2000 network, is one of the few remaining coastal wetlands in the Camp de Tarragona region. In addition to its natural value, the area also hosts to a bunker from the Spanish Civil War, adding an element of historical exploration to the tranquillity of the walk.
Tarragona and Platja del Miracle
Back in the heart of the capital, Tarragona’s Platja del Miracle offers a unique winter experience by combining the immensity of the Mediterranean with the city’s impressive historical legacy. Located right next to the port and at the foot of the Roman Amphitheatre, this beach is the most accessible from the centre of Tarragona.
Likewise, the Platja del Miracle seaside promenade is also a popular spot for Tarragona residents looking to play sports or take a reflective stroll. Platja del Miracle is also the setting for unique local traditions, such as the daring Swim of Saint Sylvester held every 31 December.
Other beaches on the Costa Dorada
To complete our winter journey, we stop at two beaches which, although geographically distant, share the appeal of offering kilometres of sand and tranquillity. On the one hand, Platja de La Pineda, located in Vila-seca, is known for its fine sand and shallow waters, but in winter it stands out for its connection with nature. This beach stretches alongside the Parc del Pinar de Perruquet, a large green area that acts as a true natural lung for the area, and where you can visit the famous Pessebre de Sorra (Sand Nativity Scene) that is set up every December in the pine forest.
On the other hand, at the northern end of the Costa Dorada, Platja de Calafell is famous for being ‘the baby bottle beach’, ideal for family tourism, as well as for its therapeutic properties, as its waters have a higher concentration of iodine than the other beaches in the area.
In winter, the Costa Dorada reveals its best-kept secret: a coastline of clear and serene beauty, connecting destinations such as Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda, Tarragona, Miami Platja and Calafell. With Shuttle2Sun’s affordable and sustainable shared and private transfer services, you can travel to the Costa Dorada from Barcelona Airport, Barcelona Port, Reus Airport, Girona Airport and Camp de Tarragona AVE train station.
