The star project was the <\/span>Cerd\u00e0 Plan<\/span><\/b>, the brainchild of the engineer and town planner <\/span>Ildefons Cerd\u00e0<\/span><\/b>, who presented a proposal for the expansion of the city in 1859, which involved the demolition of the existing city walls, which limited the built-up area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The aim of the Cerd\u00e0 Plan was to ensure the comfort of the citizens, breaking down social classes, so that there would be no differences between rich and poor. <\/span><\/p>\n It consisted of an <\/span>orthogonal grid<\/span><\/b>, with wide streets, up to 20 metres wide, and with octagonal, multi-family buildings, four storeys high, with landscaped spaces between them. Both are works by <\/span>Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/span><\/b>. The <\/span>Sagrada Fam\u00edlia<\/span><\/b>, by the same artist, is also a must-see, although it is in another neighbourhood of L’Eixample.
