It was not until the 12th century that began the <\/span>Christian reconquest<\/span><\/b> of Catalonia. In 1159, Prades received its<\/span> town charter<\/span><\/b>, granted by <\/span>Count of Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer IV<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Subsequently, in the 20th century, it suffered an economic stagnation, due to the difficulties in accessing the village, because of the complicated roads that connected it with other towns such as <\/span>Reus <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>Tarragona<\/span><\/b>. This caused many families to leave <\/span>Prades <\/span><\/b>to live on the coast. Nowadays, it has only <\/span>650 inhabitants<\/span><\/b>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If you visit Prades, you must wander through its streets and squares, whose planning dates to medieval times. Its old quarter is known as <\/span>Vila Vermella<\/span><\/b>, due to the use of <\/span>red stone <\/span><\/b>on the fa\u00e7ades of most of the buildings in the town centre. One of the most emblematic squares in the town is <\/span>Pla\u00e7a Major<\/span><\/b>, presided by the church, characterised by its porticoes, which, since the 13th century, has hosted fairs and markets. In the case of Prades, its <\/span>wall <\/span><\/b>was built during the <\/span>Middle Ages<\/span><\/b>, with red stone, like many other buildings of the period in this town. Today, it is still possible to follow the walled outline of the town, thanks to the preservation of the gates and various arches.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n On the one hand, <\/span>Portal de la Plaza<\/span><\/b> or <\/span>Portal de la Creu<\/span><\/b>, which was the main entrance to the old town. It is located next to the <\/span>church of Santa Maria la Mayor<\/span>. Next to this gate, you will also see the <\/span>Cruz de T\u00e9rmino<\/span><\/b> (boundary cross), which indicated the entrance to the town.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Another of the accesses to the town centre is <\/span>Planet del Pont<\/span><\/b>, which connected Prades with Conca de Barber\u00e0 region from the north.
