With the arrival of the Roman army led by<\/span> Scipio Africanus<\/span><\/b> in 210 BC, Tarragona became a city allied to the Empire. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It later became known as <\/span>Colonia Iulia Urbs Triumphalis Tarraco<\/span><\/b>, or simply <\/span>Tarraco<\/span><\/b>, and became the capital of the province Hispania Citerior Tarraconensis, one of the three that made up <\/span>Hispania<\/span><\/b>, along with Baetica and Lusitania. <\/span><\/p>\n The entire city was surrounded by <\/span>walls<\/span><\/b>, of which we can still find up to 1,100 metres, out of a total of 3,500 metres.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One of the most emblematic places that stands beside the Mediterranean Sea is the lush <\/span>Roman amphitheatre<\/span><\/b>, located outside the walled perimeter, built at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. <\/span>During your visit, you will be able to see part of its <\/span>stands<\/span><\/b>, which are still preserved, while you can imagine the gladiatorial fights that took place there.
