Art <\/span><\/b>shines in all its splendour in the most emblematic streets of <\/span>Barcelona<\/span><\/b>, the Catalan capital that has seen the growth, over the centuries, of <\/span>renowned artists and architects<\/span><\/b>, who have left an impressive mark in many corners of Barcelona, as well as in those places that are still unknown to a large part of the population.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One of the artistic movements that have most marked the<\/span> architecture of Barcelona<\/span><\/b> has been <\/span>Modernism<\/span><\/b>, also known as <\/span>‘Art Nouveau’<\/span><\/b>, a creative current of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century that stands out for wanting to break with all previous styles, revolutionizing the existing standards so far.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In this publication, we are going to tell you about the many buildings that make up the modernist heritage of Barcelona. The <\/span>Cerd\u00e0 Plan<\/span><\/b> was a reform project that completely changed the appearance of Barcelona, with the creation of promenades and wide streets, in the form of a grid, with gardens, which would divide the houses into octagonal blocks. This is what we know today as <\/span>L’Eixample<\/span><\/a>. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At the same time, another of the events that marked the growth of Barcelona was the holding of the <\/span>Universal Exhibition<\/span><\/b> in 1888 in <\/span>Parc de la Ciutadella<\/span><\/b>. Casa Lle\u00f3 i Morera, Casa Amatller and Casa Batll\u00f3 stand at street level, making modernism shine in all its splendour. But what do we know about their creators? <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The first to see the light of day was <\/span>Casa Amatller<\/span><\/b>, designed for the <\/span>Amatller family<\/span><\/a> in 1900 by the architect <\/span>Josep Puig i Cadafalch<\/span><\/b>. This family building stands out for the countless <\/span>sculptural details <\/span><\/b>that adorn its fa\u00e7ade. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Parallel to the latter, <\/span>Casa Batll\u00f3<\/span><\/a> was completely refurbished, reflecting the creative freedom of the renowned <\/span>Antoni Gaud\u00ed<\/span><\/b>, the greatest role model of Catalan modernism, who created numerous works of art in Barcelona, such as the <\/span>Sagrada Familia<\/span><\/b>, Barcelona’s greatest icon;<\/span> La Pedrera<\/span><\/b> or Casa Mil\u00e0; the <\/span>G\u00fcell Palace<\/span><\/b>; <\/span>Park G\u00fcell<\/span><\/b>; <\/span>Casa Vicens<\/span><\/b>; the <\/span>Teresian College<\/span><\/b>; <\/span>Casa Calvet<\/span><\/b> and the <\/span>Bellesguard Tower<\/span><\/b>, among others. This architectural <\/span>proposal<\/span><\/a>, made up of different pavilions, aimed to create an enclosure with the capacity to treat up to <\/span>1,000 patients<\/span><\/b>, and to offer a peaceful and pleasant space, thanks to the <\/span>gardens <\/span><\/b>that complemented this small city, as a therapeutic measure.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding_last_edited=”on|phone” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” custom_padding=”0px|||||” custom_padding_tablet=”|60px||60px|false|true” custom_padding_phone=”|40px||40px|false|true” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.17.4″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” min_height=”181.8px” custom_margin=”||||false|false” custom_padding=”3px||||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n On the other hand, we must mention another exuberant <\/span>modernist jewel<\/span><\/a>, the <\/span>Palau de la M\u00fasica Catalana<\/span><\/b>, home of the <\/span>Orfe\u00f3 Catal\u00e0<\/span><\/b>, built during the first decade of the 20th century, also by the architect Dom\u00e8nech i Montaner. Its fa\u00e7ade includes the sculpture “<\/span>La can\u00e7\u00f3 popular catalana”<\/span><\/b>, a work by the Catalan Miquel Blay i F\u00e0bregas, which represents the Catalan people and traditional music.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Barcelona <\/span><\/b>is the city with the most Modernist-style buildings on the <\/span>World Heritage<\/span><\/b> list. Apart from all the works we have mentioned, it is also worth mentioning others, such as the <\/span>Antiga F\u00e0brica Casaramona<\/span><\/b>, where CaixaF\u00f2rum is located; the <\/span>National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC)<\/span><\/b>; the Museum of Catalan Modernism.
