In 1897, <\/span>Reus Town Council <\/span><\/b>commissioned a preliminary study by the engineers <\/span>Josep M\u00f3ra<\/span><\/b>, <\/span>Alfons Benavente<\/span><\/b> and the then young military man <\/span>Francesc Maci\u00e0<\/span><\/b>, who would later become president of the <\/span>Generalitat de Catalunya<\/span><\/b>. The definitive project did not take shape until 1903, when the engineer <\/span>Gaiet\u00e0 \u00dabeda i Sarachaga<\/span><\/b> presented a viable plan that led to the start of construction work that same year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The initial construction was completed in 1907, but the need to expand its capacity soon arose.
