One of the park’s most outstanding features is its rich history. During the Spanish War of Independence, the park was used as a refuge by French soldiers. Later, the park was acquired by the Desvalls family and became a meeting place for the high society of the time. It was during this period that the labyrinth was built, and the themed gardens planted. In 1967, the city of Barcelona acquired the park and opened it to the public.
